Pit Range is now OPEN

As you probably know, the ‘Pit range has recently had a certificate of compliance issued to allow the use of the pit range from now onwards.

There is some further remedial work that needs to be carried out and (funds allowing), this will take place to allow a further expansion of the usage in the Pit.

Therefore, as of July 8th 2026 :-

The pit range is now OPEN to all shooting, and you may also now shoot unaccompanied (at your own risk)

The usage rules are as follows :-

RIFLE

Fully open to all rifles from all distances. Prone, Kneeling, standing & bench rest if required.

This includes all .22RF calibre, pistol calibred rifles, Training rifle and Muzzle Loading rifles (ALL to muzzle and energy limits 2030J & 2145 fps).

PISTOL

  • Open to pistol shooting from 15m and closer only.
  • This includes all .22RF and revolver calibres.
  • This includes Muzzle loading pistol/revolvers.

Pistols may NOT be shot prone.

SHOTGUN

  • Fully open to all shotguns using BIRDSHOT at steel targets – note there is a 10m minimum distance from a steel target.
  • Fully open to all shotguns using BUCKSHOT at paper targets (NO STEEL).
  • Fully open to all shotguns using SLUG ammunition from 25m and closer at paper targets (NO STEEL).
  • Factory SLUG ammunition in excess of the above ME & MV is specifically permitted along with plastic wads.
  • Please make every effort to remove any ‘ball clump in the bullet catcher and clean up any plastic wadding after shooting.
  • CLAY shooting is subject to a further inspection currently being dealt with.

TARGETS

  • All paper targets on frames MUST be inside or on the sleeper walls at a maximum height of 1.25m TCH (target centre height).
  • Please note the left-hand flank sleeper wall & bullet catcher has yet to be finished so only targets at ground level may be used.

NO shooting can take place with bullets hitting that LHS vertical range wall until we remediate.

  • Steel targets may be used.
  • Please note that for ANY bullet calibre used – the steel targets MUST be shrouded to catch any ricochet.
  • Shotguns using bird shot do not need steel targets to be shrouded.

These are temporary guidelines and MUST be followed until the remedial work is being carried out.

Any transgression to the above could mean the member being removed from the club.

The full certificate of compliance and range orders will be issued shortly.

A reminder that dynamic disciplines can only be shot by members who have received extra training as required or with a DC or other SQEP (Suitably Qualified Experienced Person).

PLEASE SHOOT SENSIBLY & SAFELY and any doubt – DO NOT SHOOT and refer to the Club Training & Safety Officer for guidance.
