Secretaries Update 1st June 2020
Covid-19 latest update:
I trust that all of you reading this are in good health and are staying safe.
Along with a number of clubs we are looking at being able to restart some type of shooting at Headley Park. It is clear that the monthly competitions and calendar organized events will for the time being stay suspended and we will review this position as guidance changes.
In the meantime we are looking to try to allow the return of “solo” shooting done by members using their own insurance cover. Slots will need to be pre-booked via the web and there will be no ability to just turn up and shoot. We are currently in the process of putting this all together and Martin is doing the initial obligatory risk assessment taking our lead from the guidance given by the various national bodies.
(To help you understand the challenges we all face, here is the NSRA guidance document for reopening clubs)
In the meantime, Tim Gardener has been taking advantage of the club being closed to carry out essential maintenance and to do a deep clean on all ranges prior to opening up on a limited basis. Between Mike Suggett and ourselves we have now planted over 500 trees in the last few months to help baffle the level of our sound output following sound complaints we have received from two neighbours. As you know, we have no water on site and with the driest spring in years Tim is bringing two tonnes of water to the range every other day to ensure that they all have the best possible chance of survival. (Some photos of the works can be found on the range maintenance page)
Tim, with the help of a few socially distanced club members is also currently cleaning the 25m butts, putting in a new sleeper wall and repairing the rotten 25m roof plus repainting all the range screens. We have set a proposed limited re-start date of the 15th June, however this is also subject to concluding all the maintenance work.
Next week, Tim will be at the range every day from Monday the 1st June from midday onwards and into the evening to ensure this task gets completed on time. He would welcome some help as he cannot do this on his own, so please if you have a few hours to spare in the afternoons or after work in the evening, head to the club and seek Tim out at a safe 2m distance. I suggest you bring gloves as there is plenty of Bracken to pull, but better still get in touch with Tim and liase with him as to what to bring so we can get the most done. I have already helped with a few days and also plan on being at the club at some point next week.
Please watch the website for further updates as to how we will be opening up.
Stay safe
Rod Philpott
Hon. Secretary HPRPC
